On the morning of September 15th, the renovation and upgrading project of Sichuan Gymnasium, the competition and warm-up venue for basketball of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games Summer, got started.
The renovation project mainly involves the upgrading of infrastructure based on the existing building. Some supporting rooms will be built, and upgrading work will be conducted for the venue's layout, air conditioning systems, sports facilities, and safety facilities. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by February 2021.
Sichuan Gymnasium covers an area of 43,200 square metres, with a construction area of 24,900 square metres. The competition venue is 1,300-square metres large, and is equipped with 9,300 seats. The venue has advanced systems of lighting, telephone communication, automatic fire sprinkler and so on. It can hold sports events of handball, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting, wushu, and large-scale artistic performances and commercial exhibitions. Besides serving for the Games' basketball competitions and warm-up, it can play long-term function as a public exercising site as well.
