Yao Ming, a former center forward in the China National Men's Basketball Team with the nickname "Walking Great Wall", is a representative figure of Chinese basketball and is currently the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association.


Yao Ming started part-time basketball training in 1989 and joined the China National Men's Basketball Team in 1998. At the 21st Universiade 2001 in Beijing, the Chinese National Men's Basketball Team led by Yao Ming won the silver medal, impressing the spectators with a fabulous match. After this event, this towering new figure started to attract attention from abroad. In 2002, Yao Ming became the first pick of Houston Rockets in the first round draft into the NBA in 2002, making himself the first foreign player to make to this level in NBA history. In 2002, at the Asian Games Busan, the Chinese team lost to the South Korea team in the final, making it hard for the team to enter the Athens Olympic Games. The only chance was the 2003 Asian Championships when Yao Ming secured the victory with his team in the final with his splendid 30 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocked shots, and 6 secondary attacks.



In his NBA career, Yao Ming was selected into the all-star lineup for six consecutive seasons and the best all-NBA team five times. In 2015, Yao Ming accepted the letter of appointment issued by the Beijing Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee to be the ambassador for bidding for hosting the Winter Olympics. In the same year, Yao Ming was listed as one of the "Top 50 Outstanding Leading Figures".


Yao Ming is keen on charity and education that he ranks seven on the 2017 China Charity Celebrity List. After becoming the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association, Yao Ming worked hard to improve physical education in China, trying to realize the potential value of sports. Yao Ming was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame after retirement because of his great contribution to basketball, sealing his place in world history as one of the greatest and most memorable basketball players. Yao Ming was also a legendary figure in the Chinese sports field.
