On October 8, Chengdu Municipal Government and FISU held a video conference on preparatory work for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games. Oleg Matytsin, president of FISU, presided over the conference. Wang Pingjiang, vice-president & secretary general of the Executive Committee of Chengdu 2021 FISU WUG and deputy mayor of Chengdu Municipal Government, participated in the conference and gave a speech.
In the speech, Wang Pingjiang briefed on the progress of the Games' preparatory work. According to him, the preparatory work for the Games has entered a comprehensive rushing stage. The venues and the WUG Village are under smooth construction or renovation, and can be completed as scheduled. 14 competition areas and 40 venue centres have been set up, while the drills of demonstration venues are being prepared. Service guarantee for the Games is also fully followed up. On August 18, Chengdu successfully held the one-year countdown event, sending out invitations to the world, and launched the accreditation system. Until October 7, there have been more than 80 delegations sending out applications. Wang Pingjiang stated that the preparatory work of WUG is the top priority of Chengdu Municipal Government currently, and Chengdu will devote every effort to the following tasks regarding the Games. He also warmly invited the FISU team to visit Chengdu and guide the work.
FISU praised Chengdu's preparatory work for the Games, and stated that they would support Chengdu with all their resources. FISU will also send a professional team to Chengdu for on-site guidance from November to December this year. President Matytsin said, "we will use all our resources to support the Executive Committee in preparing for the Games. The Games will welcome thousands of student-athletes in Chengdu. We will also do everything possible to invite as many as we can universities and their teams and students to visit Chengdu, a city with bright future. The next year is special, because we still face the challenges. But I believe we have our experience and we have professional knowledge to find the best solution. We are sure soon you will get maximum support and maximum advises about the Games."
At the conference, the Executive Committee of the Games introduced the details of the preparation work to FISU. The both sides exchanged views on information and communication system construction, catering service bidding, accreditation classification and certificate making, the venue of the closing ceremony, information sharing and others.
All members of the FISU Executive Committee and Eric Saintrond, secretary general of FISU, as well as Han Yi and Mao Zhixiong, two of the vice presidents of Executive Committee for the Games, attented the conference.
