On September 10, the ground-breaking ceremony of the upgrading project of Sichuan Water Sports School, the rowing competition venue for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games Summer, was launched. During the Games, the 15 gold medals of rowing will be awarded here.
The Sichuan Water Sports School, located in Xinjin District in Chengdu, is equipped with 2,350-metres long, 150-metres wide artificial competition lanes. With the reputation of "the No.1 water sports competition lanes in Asia", the lanes have witnessed grand sports events such as The Asian Rowing Championships, National Games of the People's Republic of China, Chinese Rowing Championships, and International Universities Rowing Races taking place here.
The renovation project involves a total construction area of 8,843 square metres, including 2,061 square metres of building area. The renovation mainly focuses on seven aspects -- the competition venue, competition facilities, spectator area facilities, event functional rooms, event special systems, and media and broadcast area. The project is scheduled to be completed by February 2021. The rowing venue of the Games will be upgraded to a more functional and convenient one by then, and can provide best quality services for athletes.
