On June 10, the last roll of waterproofing was installed on the roof of the main stadium for the opening ceremony of the 31st Summer World University Games, thereby successfully completing the roof waterproofing system of Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu. The stadium was built by China Resources Land Limited through authorization. China Construction Second Bureau Installation Engineering Co., Ltd. was responsible for the construction of the steel structure and the roof surface. The total construction area of the stadium is 120,000 square meters, with a height of 50 meters and a seating capacity of 40,000 people. It is one of the few circle-shaped stadiums in the world and has earned the nickname, "Flying Saucer." The ancient "Sunbird" emblem is presented vividly with ultra-clear, tempered, and color-glazed glass, perfectly combining modern technology and the ancient Bashu（Sichuan）civilization.
The total roof surface of the stadium amounts to 21,000 square meters and used more than 7,000 purlins, in total. The construction company adopted "modularization" assembly technology and split 88 comprehensive modules into 176 units, then hoisted them into position and joined them together like "tangram puzzles". While ensuring construction accuracy, it also avoided much high mid-air assembly and joining work. This greatly enhanced construction safety and efficiency.
At present, the stadium is undergoing multiple kinds of construction at the same time including mechanical and electrical installation, prefabricated deck installation, landscape engineering, roof surface glass installation, curtain walls installation, and metal roof surface installation. Next, the stadium will have the construction of the decoration layer of the roof surface, curtain walls, and other structures at the same time, and the overall construction is expected to be completed by the end of April 2021. While "Sunbird" is "flying" to the glass roof at an accelerated speed, the "Flying Saucer" that stuns the world with its silver side walls is about to take off.
