Consolidating past achievements, the Preparatory Committee is aimed at making steady progress with preparatory work
On June 5, Chengdu Municipal Government, FISU (International University Sports Federation), and FUSC (Federation of University Sports of China) held a second video conference to study and discuss preparatory work for the World University Games Chengdu 2021. Among those in attendance were Eric Saintrond, FISU's secretary-general and CEO, and Wang Pingjiang, deputy mayor of the Chengdu Municipal Government and Deputy Secretary of the Preparatory Committee for the 31st Summer World University Games, Chengdu 2021.
Entrusted by Mayor Luo Qiang and acting on behalf of the Preparatory Committee for the World University Games, Chengdu 2021, Deputy Mayor Wang Pingjiang reported on the progress made on the agreed items from the first video conference. According to Wang, Chengdu is very devoted to the preparations of the Games: the Committee's organizing structure has been constantly improved; the compilation of the Comprehensive Plan of the World University Games has progressed continuously; drills in demonstration venues and other key tasks are carried out in an orderly manner. He added that the city is striving to establish a perfect communication mechanism with FISU, and building high-level communication mechanism and regular liaison mechanism between various working groups of the Preparatory Committee Office and the corresponding departments of FISU has achieved remarkable results. At the same time, Wang also warmly invited FISU and FUSC to Chengdu to guide preparatory work in the near future.
Eric Saintrond said that because of the current particular conditions, many tasks that could be done through face-to-face conversations had to be done online, which was unprecedented in the history of the Games. Meanwhile, FISU heartily congratulated Chengdu on their successful work under such difficult circumstances. Afterward, FISU and the Preparatory Committee shared their views on insurance for the Games, the venue for the closing ceremony, the broadcasting of the Games, the Games' results system, accreditation, language services, and other matters. Both sides indicated that they would follow through on the outcomes of the conference, and continue to strengthen communication and coordination between the two sides so as to jointly make good preparations for the Games.
Mark Vandenplas (director of the Summer World University Games), Zhao Jing (deputy director of the Summer World University Games), Shen Zhen (vice president of FUSC), Mao Zhixiong (deputy director of the Preparatory Committee for the 31st Summer World University Games Chengdu) and Li Zhigang (party secretary of the Education Department of Sichuan Province) also attended the conference.
